Venus Retrograde in Leo Square Jupiter in Taurus

- Venus in Leo – Fixed Fire
- Jupiter in Taurus – Fixed Earth
- Dates: 17th August – 23rd September (exact on 21st August and 16th September)
- Antiscia dates: 21-23rd August, 17-18th September
Venus hosts Jupiter in her earthy residence of Taurus through a square this month, giving a helpful connection between the two as they make a square, promising potentials for growth, opportunity and support.
The influence begins around the 17th August and will last through to the 23rd September, going exact on 21st August and 16th September when Venus is direct again. With Venus imminently emerging from under the beams, fully expressing her own light and power once, more a sense of hope and optimism is on the horizon.
These two planets can bring a sense of harmony and respite from existing challenges, or at least finding some source of help or guidance to alleviate the situation. This is likely to be felt in the houses where both Venus and Jupiter fall in your birth chart, but especially if they are directly in aspect to any planets in the chart.
Ancient astrologers didn’t consider the square aspects between, or coming from, Venus and Jupiter as difficult in the way that it is with Mars or Saturn. But since a square is the nature of Mars, it may still provide impetus or stimulus to take action around the topics of the houses they rule in your chart, with the practical and steady influence of the fixed modality of Leo and Taurus.
With Jupiter in the superior position it’s energies of expansion will dominate, seeking to expand Venusian themes of relationships, creativity and pleasure. In a square aspect this has the potential to resolve into excess, overindulgence and generally overdoing things. It may feel at times like a bit of push and pull between taking action and maintaing steady and balanced control. Venus receiving Jupiter in her sign and the modal sympathy between the signs helps soften that, as does the antisica forming in August and September, when the planets act more like a conjunction, blending their qualities, and acting more in unison.
Wisdom and Insights
You might feel stimulated to act around the recent retrograde themes of renewal, revisiting, reviewing, reworking or reflecting on relationships and what you love and value in life, including your own sense of self worth and self-expression. Jupiter supports deeper exploration or learning around this, bringing valuable revelations, insights or practical wisdom that you can take with you going forward.
Under the expansive agency of Jupiter, new adventures or learning in Venus’s creative pathway are possible, bringing inspiration to learn something new, or revisit a hobby or activity you once loved but perhaps fell away from, bringing renewed joy.
Connection and Egos
Take advantage of this time for opportunities for healing, compassion and connection, catching up with old friends or family, and reinforcing companionship and connection based on shared values. Loyalty and commitments in relationships could be highlighted as well as remembering and expressing what’s meaningful about those to you. But beware of pride, overextended egos or stubbornness at the expense of collective harmony. Tap into appreciating your own value, and who you are, but ensuring those around you know how valued and appreciated they are too.
Generosity and Extravagance
Jupiter supports generous and giving actions, but some caution is needed so that this isn’t overextended, becoming a source of frustration. Is your generosity and compassion not being received, is it unwanted, too much, or not being reciprocated? So you may need to think about where you are giving too much of yourself in a way that’s not ultimately supportive.
Jupiter wants to bring more of what Venus has to offer, so you may feel drawn to really being immersed in the things that give you pleasure in life, and to creating a sense of social community, harmony and connection. But also to extravagance. Moderation is the key to this being soulful and beneficial.
Keeping that in mind, and finding moderation, will allow the beautiful healing, connective, and abundant nature of Venus and Jupiter in tandem to be expressed in a productive and supportive way. As Venus is still retrograde be prepared for any of these topics to transition to a new stage once she goes direct. It’s okay to not have it all completely figured out yet, or to change things again later. Venus’s retrograde period is a great time for learning and discovery rather than implementing hard and fast plans. Jupiter lends a helping hand with that, and to finding practical wisdom and growth now, that you can carry forward to apply when Venus goes direct on September 4th.
